Does The Wallmart Gift Cards Only Work If The Items Are Shipped To You?
Can you order items and pick them up at the store, or must you pay the shipping charges too. If so then perishable groceries are out of the question.

Walmart.com permits store pickup. The fact that your points are not redeemable at the brick-and-mortar stores does not preclude your accepting delivery there.
