Attaching door handles typically involves the following steps:
- Gather Tools and Materials: You will need the door handles, screws, a screwdriver, a drill (if necessary), a measuring tape, and a pencil.
- Mark the Position: Determine the height where the door handle will be installed. Common heights range from 34 to 48 inches from the floor. Use the measuring tape and pencil to mark the location.
- Drill Holes: If your door doesn't have pre-drilled holes, you will need to drill them. Align the handle template (if provided) on the door and mark the spots for the screws and latch. Drill holes where you marked.
- Install the Latch: Insert the latch into the edge of the door and secure it with screws.
- Attach the Handle: Align the exterior handle with the holes, ensuring the spindle goes through the latch mechanism. Place the interior handle on the opposite side, lining it up with the spindle and screw holes.
- Secure the Handles: Insert the screws through the interior handle and into the exterior handle. Tighten the screws until the handles are securely attached to the door.
- Test the Handle: Ensure the handle operates smoothly, and the latch retracts and extends properly when the handle is turned.
- Adjust if Necessary: If the handle is not functioning correctly, adjust the screws or re-align the handles as needed.
