Black Highlights On Words And Icons On Aol Email Window

I recently downloaded AOl 9.6 to a new laptop computer. It seemed to be OK for a few days and then it developed black highlighting on words and icons only on the Read email page. I can log off and back on again...sometimes it disappears and sometimes not. Even if it disappears, it reappears at random. I've tried resetting several different settings - screen resolution & advanced systems settings, but neither idea has solved the situation. Anyone have another idea?

This is what AOL told me:

The problem is caused by an update from Windows wherein AOL is not yet compatible with it. Our System Engineers are currently working on fix to resolve this issue.

We need to enable the RUN THIS PROGRAM IN COMPATIBILITY MODE on your Windows setting.

1. Go to Desktop and Right Click AOL Icon.
2. Select on PROPERTIES
3. Then select on Compatibility Tab.
4. Under Compatibility Mode, please CHECK on the box for RUN THIS PROGRAM IN COMPATIBILITY MODE for: Then leave it as WINDOWS XP (SERVICE PACK 3).

5. Click on APPLY button, then click OK button.

This did not work for me. Then they had me try to change the display:

1. Please click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Select Category in the View by drop-down menu, and then click Appearance and Personalization. Then click Display.
3. In the left panel, click Change display settings. Click Advanced settings. Click the Monitor tab. On the lower left of the window, under Colors, click True Color (32 bit) drop-down menu, and then click High Color (16 bit).
4. Then please click Apply.

This did work—atleast for now. They are working on a fix.
