Unfortunately in the world we live in, yes. It is absolutely a necessity for some Avon Reps. to do this. If they are a newer rep (or even older ones making sure they get the money to pay for it), they have a limit on stuff they can order & with a large amount of sales they have to pay some of that up front before the rep even gets the items. The company has so much in loss from either bad reps or bad customers that they have actually made it manditory for us to do so. It's basically to make sure that you can actually pay for it. If you don't have the money now, you can't expect us to have the money either to buy the stuff you're ordering. Not saying you won't pay, but we never know which ones will & which ones won't. None of this is free for us. In fact our discounts on the merchandise very with how much we sell. Sometimes we only make 25% off of what someone orders & sometimes the order is less than $5. Sorry for the inconvenience, but there is no worry if you do your homework on the representative & know that they're reliable. Drill them, if they don't know what they're selling or can't answer your questions well, then they don't know what they're even selling. Remember that there are MANY of us to chose from in your area or even out of state if you want to shop online. Just go to www.youravon.com ;o)

Yes, it is necessary. For example I am an Avon, Mark and Tiny Tillia Independent Representative. I allow my customers to pay later. But doing this has its disadvantages. Because the money comes from my pocket til I deliver the order and get the money..

I think your Rep is doing the right thing. He/She has to pay Avon before your order is delivered to his/her door.
