Why Does My Car Stall While Driving Or Idling

i have a 1993 station wagon burick century that has been having a problem for a couple of moths. I will die/stall out while driving or while idling. ususally it has the problem when in the city but when im driving out of town, long distances it doesnt have the problem as much. sometimes it will start right back up other times it will take a while before it starts back up. what could be the problem?
