Dodge Caravan 2002 Need To Replace Engine Computer. How To Find Inexpensive Comp
I have Dodge Caravan Sport 2002, the light "Check engine" on, need pass state inspection. The car is fine. Two mechanics diagnosed and said need to replace the engine computer in order to get rid of the light. The quoted price of the computer is $767. Any less expensive options?

Buy one on eBay for $250 (it's called an ECU or an ECM) and have them (or another garage) install it for you. Or buy a used one at your local junkyard for $200 and have them install that one for you. No way on earth would they have the nerve to charge you $500 to install it! The whole process takes less than an hour. You should save at least $250 by buying the part yourself.
By the way, garages always charge you double the actual price for your parts. They are probably quoting you a price of $500 for the ECU and $267 for labor.
