Check the fluid level and pull your tires and check the pads and shoes. The pads that were replaced may not have had squeelers on them. Some dont. So you may be close to metal on metal again and you won't hear it until its already too late and the drums and rotors are chewed up and need to be lathed back smooth.

You should already know if the pedal feels soft or not so if thats the case your pads are about gone or the brakes need to be bled which is a sign that the fluid is leaking down. A year is a reasonable lifespan for pads and shoes depending on how many miles you put on them. Dont discount that you may be just the other side of being time for a brake job and if its just low on brake fluid or needs to be bled then theres a leak and thats a problem. Brake fluid doesnt get used up, if its low then it went somewhere. It could be leaking from the master cylinder, the line connections or the wheel cylinders and could be contaminating the pads and shoes which reduces their ability to perform and makes them wear out faster

The light is on for a reason. Dont ignore it.

If you agree that the answer I provided is correct please remember to "accept" and/or mark it as "helpful" so I know I'm doing a good job. Thank you, I would really appreciate it.
