Rear Suspension

riding along and a loud noise came from the rear end  but I did see along the inner side of the tires a rod that appeared to be an incomplete circle or the letter c

One of your rear struts has broken or rotted off the vehicle. You should replace it ASAP because it will affect the handling of your car.

It could also be rusted where it attaches to the rear suspension. You would have to take a closer look to see what the exact problem was with the strut.

Here's a photo of a new strut for your car. It might help you to determine what is damaged.
