Screen Display

My HP 8730w, the screen will all the sudden go so dim that you can hardly readit. You close the lid & re-open it, it works just fine. It will do it 5-6 times a day.

Connect an external display just to be sure that the video card is working correctly, but it sounds like the CCFL backlight(s) them selves are gone. They are similar to a fluorescent tube in a store and they do burn out eventually.

You will have to replace the screen as the CCFL lamp(s) are an integral part of the screen, to note, I looked into replacing just the lamp(s) and by the time I figured out the cost and the frustration of opening up the screen, it was cheaper to replace the screen.
