The LG 840g is a TracFone (the "g" after the Model# indicates this). As a result, the phone is a Pre-Paid phone that works on the TracFone network. TracFone is a Division of AT&T. Like other cell phone networks, TracFone has agreements with other carriers to use their towers to ensure coverage for you when you are out of their primary network (but wherever AT&T regular cell towers exits, you should also have TracFone coverage - which is fairly extensive). I've been a TracFone customer a couple of years now & have upgraded my phones twice to even better phones each time. My phone now has a touch-screen. I have internet access. I have ALL of the features (minus GPS) that other carriers offer. TracFone minutes are pre-paid minutes, but the phone displays the amount of minutes you have and when they expire. With my current phones, I get triple the value of any minutes I purchase (so if I buy a 400 minute block for $99, I will have 1200 minutes added to my phone). Typically, the price of these minutes are broken into plenty of varying amounts & expiration dates - and then factor into this equation that my phone triples the value of any minutes I add to the phone. Gone now are the days of phone plans and paying for minutes that I never use and I never have to worry about going over because I know when I'm about to run out of minutes and can purchase more minutes with the phone (have a credit card associated with my phone that will be charged for the minutes) or I can buy the minutes on my PC and the minutes will be added at that time. The TracFone allows me to make the most of my dollars without sacrificing quality or coverage.
