Condensing Duct

About once a year I have to pull the back off and remove the condensing duct because it is pluged solid with lint. When this happens the dryer has to be run several times. Can you tell me why this happens? Also it will not run through a wash/dry cycle. I have to program the dry cycle after the wash has finished? Any ideas. Thank you, Bruce
