Question About Mega Arm/mega Tower 'arm Motion.'

What exactly is the "sensor/trigger" for the Mega Arm/ Mega Tower Arm to rise and fall? Can the unit be activated by a remote, overriding the Hall Effect Sensor? What does the remote control for the unit activate it to do? Do you know of any incidents where the arm has been known to fall and cause injury or damage?
