Passenger Seat Will Not Return To The Upright Position

While seated in the rear of the truck I pulled up on the side latch to move the passenger seat back forward, it sprang up and stayed. I cannot return the seat to its upright position. I have removed the seat and everything looks "in order" but am failing miserably. Any suggestions? Buying a new seat is out of the question. Any assistance is appreciated.
