Nordic Track E 5.9 Elliptical Console Not Allowing Changes

I recently picked up a gently used Nordic Track E 5.9 I can't seem to get the console to change to manual or preset. The countdown doesn't start when exercise begins. Only thing I seem to be able to do is change resistance. Any ideas?
