Correct Procedure For Disconnecting From Computer

The camera will be treated as an external storage device by the PC.  You "should" right click the small USB icon in the tray and select "disconnect" for the appropriate device.

However... since 99 out of 100 camera cards are formatted as FAT or FAT32 you can simply unplug the camera and be on your way.  The "disconnect" feature for removable devices really is only important for NTFS formatted storage (or anything that uses a journaled file system).

So, it should be just fine to simply unplug the cable and go.  If you don't trust this advice just try it yourself after you've removed anything important from the camera.
