Reverse Skip On My Screen

I turned on my voice recorder after putting in a new battery. The screen said 'REVERSE SKIP'. How do I clear it so I can use it without losing any of my files. It won't turn off or clear. I have to take the battery out to turn it off. Please help. Thanks.
