Sharp Xe-a201 Won't Let Me Program.

Hello,When I turn the key to PGM mode and press subtotal, it comes up with P (programming state symbol) on the left, and although it will allow me to enter numbers and "." it comes up with the numbers on screen instead of accepting them as the usual commands for programming mode. If I press TL/NS, it makes a sound, as with the other buttons.For example, I am trying to program the Receipt Feed. I enter PGM mode, press subtotal, then press "4" and "." . "4." comes up on screen, instead of the command that I would expect of Enter line number etc...It seems almost like the till is locked.Can someone tell me what the problem is please, as I am not hugely experienced with this till, can't find anything in the manual and think I may be missing something silly here!
