Jam

The machine is jammed and won't go forward. I have tried to get thread out but can't get any out. Assume i need to take off the top plate

Check the bobbin case make sure it is seated properly into the machine. It should ride in the groove that runs the inside hook

Also if you have any burrs or needle strikes/holes on the bobbin case. It should be smooth on all areas but due to over manipulation of the needle (Typically caused by pushing and pulling material or breaking needles) you can develop these anomalies that will catch your thread.

Finally your needle may be wrong or incorrect. You need to be sure that the flat side of the needle is towards the back of the machine (Despite the fact it seems like the needle set screw should hit the flat side.)
