Engine Issue

I'm working on a Makita EK7651H CUT OFF saw and unit will start and run but isn't reaching top end. Also after running, unit is hard to pull start until you pull spark plug out and start over. The valves look good, push rods are straight. You cant see what the piston looks like after the muffler removal so you can't tell if there is scoring going on or not. Do you have any advise on this issue?
