How Do I Keep The Correct Stitch While Changing The Position Of The Needle?

I have a Pfaff Creative 2134, and I am trying to sew a zipper using stitch no. 1. Every time I try to position the needle all the way to the left, it automatically goes to stitch no. 149, and moves back to center when I switch back to no. 1. What do I need to do to use stitch no.1 with the needle positioned all the way over to the left?
