When to buy new and when to buy reconditioned?

When it comes to water pumps,starters and alternators buy from Napa,starauto or a premium auto supplier because if not you don't know what your getting.In a 6 month period I replaced 4 water pumps even though they were life time warranty they were reconditioned (meaning they were cleaned up and bearings replaced but the housing was weak and would brake were the bearings were located.The last time it happened it went thru the radiator a now added cost to me the same with alternator I replaced 3 of these because of the built in volt regulator was faulty and over charged it cost me a battery so know when to spend a little more money on a part and you will save more in the long run (Time,money and your sanity)
