Hood Release Cable On My 2009 Sonata Doesn't Work. Can't Release Hood From Insid

There is some slack on the hood release cable where it connects to the handle under the dash, inside the car. Is there an alternate way to release the hood latch so that I can open my hood? I've tried pulling on the cable with pliers, but there is no movement and the latch doesn't release.
