2013 Altima Engine Overheating

We just bought a 2013 Nissan Altima and after driving it about 10 miles we noticed more  than normal exhaust and steam coming from the car when we pulled in our garage. also noticed the heated steering wheel didn't get very hot And the mpg was only 17.  The next day I startled it remotely and when I sat in the car it turned off by itself. Then it wouldn't start (turn over). Finally got it started but on my way home it wouldn't accelerate suddenly and kept sputtering.  After it sat in my garage for a awhile (off) it seemed to work fine except the engine malfunction light was on and i couldn't get heat. We couldnt get an appt for the dealer service for four days.  Today I had to use it to go to the store and it over heated four times. I am very upset and concerned that this is a very bad car. It's going to be serviced but I don't understand how this could happen with a new car.  I've never had problems with my other new cars ( although this is my first Nissan). What is the problem and why would there be this problem on a new car that should have had a thorough quality check??
