How Do I Get A Refund For A Ticket Due To Their Fault?

My daughter is still waiting to take off.  She has been deplaned two times now.  Her flight was supposed to leave at 6:50 a.m.  They refuse to cancel the flight due to mechanical issues that they say they are trying to fix.  She has now lost an entire day of vacation.
