Reputedly, Activision has delayed next year's Call of Duty (CoD) game until 2024, leaving the series without a significant release in 2023. For context, Activision has released a CoD game yearly since 2005. Citing 'people familiar with the plan', Jason Schreier reports that Activision has pushed the game to 2024 because some executives believe they are 'introducing new versions too rapidly'.

Schreier explains that CoD: Warzone may have drawn people away from CoD: Vanguard, which fell short of Activision's sales expectations. The unnamed game is being developed by Treyarch, with Infinity Ward handling this year's entry. However, he insists that Activision remains autonomous and that Microsoft had no input in the decision.

According to Schreier, Activision will still release some CoD content in 2023. Purportedly, next year's release roadmap includes additional Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2022 content, plus a new free-to-play game.
