My Alpine Ine-s920hd Is Not Allowing Navi System Update
My Alpine INE-S920HD is not allowing Navi system update. We did the verification process, bought the update, downloaded it on 32M SD card, and attempt the update. After a few hopeful min, it indicates that the update is unsuccessful.

The user's manual for this device says that updating through the USB drive, is done according to instructions on www.alpine-europe.com.
Looking on that website, I found the UK (English language section) of it - a set of instructions about applying a firmware update - which is not the same as a set of maps updates.
http://www.alpine.co.uk/fileadmin/PDF/support/all_countries/Firmware_Update/IVE-W530BT/User_Guide_18_01_2013/UG_IVE-W530BT_EN.pdf
- the instructions say (-DO NOT DO THIS!) apply power to the unit and switch it on with the SOURCE button.
Wait for it to boot up, then push SOURCE again. Select USB from the sources.
"Searching" is displayed, and then if it finds an applicable update, the updating starts automatically. A progress bar displays... then it applies the update to the flash memory of the unit.
NOTE: If your 'map update' is not a firmware update for *this *specific *device, then you will ruin the device by applying a map update not meant to be firmware, to a firmware that is functioning. If you do, it will never function again.
I do not advise that you follow the above procedure! it could damage your device beyond repair.
As for how to update maps. The website that I looked this up on, does not list how to do so.
There is in fact no information on maps updates in the documentation for this device.
On a related site, I saw a reference to a different model of in-car device being updated by simply being switched On by turning the key to ACC or On, then having a map update disc inserted into the device, with the label side upward... the device reads it, and shows screen prompts that are easy to follow through.
See http://alpine.navigation.com/is-bin/intershop.static/WFS/Navteq-Site/Navteq/en_GB/documents/Alpine%20S09/Map%20Update/NVD-S001_Map-Update.pdf
This is the procedure I recommend, in short: DO NOT USE THE USB DRIVE AT ALL, FOR UNDATING MAPS. PUT THE MAP UPDATE ON A CD INSTEAD, AND USE THE CD TO UPDATE MAPS ON YOUR ALPINE DEVICE. If you have a compatible map update for your device - and if your device has a CD drive, of course - that should actually work.
If the source of your map update says anything different about doing the update, tell me what it is, however brief, as applies to Alpine navigation units.
