My Aol Getting Cancelled?

I have been a customer for years. I am getting e-mail threatening to cancel my membership. I haven't had to pay for my service since AOL and Time Warner merged. I called and asked if I would still get my AOL free after they split up and they said yes. Now they want me to put in my credit card number and etc. Can you explain what is happening? I have changed my phone number recently and don't know if I updated that or not.
