Need To Get On Free Aol Account To Get My Email

I can't get on AOL to get my email and it's my home page. It's a free account b/c I have had high speed connection for several years.The THING that tried to help me online insists on a account # and an evening phone. I gave them my home phone and that's all I have. I don't use AOL anymore. Haven't had dial-up for a long time. Please help.
