Transitioned Mail To Desk Top Option From Pc To Macbook Pro

Transfer mixed wife's and my mail. My in box also shows all the mail from time I first used AOL. No old mail box in saved area of mail boxs where old read mail use to go when using PC. how do I straighten out the mess without loosing data?
