Checked Baggage To Costa Rica

AA flight from St. Louis to Miami to San Jose. Return flight from San Jose to Miami (12 hour layover) to St Louis. Do these count as international flights for checked baggage purposes? Or is it domestic between St. Louis and Miami?

As long as your trip is issued on 1 ticket which includes all 4 flights (STL-MIA-SJO-MIA-STL), your baggage will be considered international. It's a good idea to review the international bag fees on American's website - since international destinations vary.
