In Android 2.1 (current Nexus One OS), you can access contacts via the "Contacts" and "Phone" applications. Assuming you are in Contacts, simply select a contact by pressing on their name, then click the Options soft key and press "Share" - select the email program that you prefer (i.e. Gmail and Email come standard with the phone) and it will attach the Vcard to the compose email window where you can type in more for the email and press Send.

It would be a usability improvement if they allowed you to do a hold on the contact from the main contacts list and hit the share option there as this would save two "clicks".
