Setting Ringtone From Song In Google Play Music On Mytouch4g.

I have a Mytouch4G and can't figure out how to set a ringtone from a song I have downloaded to Google Play Music on my phone. When I go to Setttings/Sound/Phone Ringtone, the song isn't in my available list to select for ringtone. How can I get this to appear on my available ringtone list? It's in my Google Play Music library but doesn't have an option to select as ringtone. I'm not that knowledgeable on file transfers, etc - so please be specific.

Google Play Music is a cloud-based service, so your phone won't be able to search online for the ringtone every time your phone rings. You need to put the song/ringtone on the phone itself. To get the song/ringtone to your phone, there are a couple of ways to do that. You could connect the USB cord to the phone on one end and to your PC on the other end and enable USB Mass Storage mode. (This makes your PC think there's a USB flash drive or external hard drive attached, so you can see the actual files on the phone). If your song/ringtone is already on your computer, then all you have to do is copy the file and put it into the right folder on your phone. More on where in the phone to put it in a second. If the song/ringtone is not already on your computer, then you'll need to download a copy of it from Google Play Music. Once the song is (actually stored) on your computer, you have a couple of choices to get it into the right folder on your phone. You could use the USB cable connection to copy and paste it into the Ringtones folder on the phone, or in some cases, you can email the song/ringtone to yourself and then download the song directly onto your phone.

Here is where the Ringtones folder is on most Android phones, including the MyTouch 4G:

1. Go into your apps pages and tap 'My Files' (it looks like a file folder)

2. Tap the 'All Files' folder

3. Tap 'Device Storage'

4. Scroll down and tap the 'Ringtones' folder (this is where you want to put the song/ringtone in order to have it play when your phone rings)

5. Now once the song/ringtone is in that folder, go to 'Settings', then 'Sound' (you may have to tap 'My Device' before you see 'Sound'), then tap 'Ringtones'. You should see your song/ringtone in the list now. If you only want to use that song/ringtone for when a contact calls you, you'll go into that contact change the ringtone from 'Default' to whatever song you chose. You may need to tap 'Edit' and then scroll down to assign the ringtone to that contact.
