Flashing Square

I have a brand new binatone u435 sat nav I switched it on and it's plugged in to charge It will not start up I just keeps flashing a black square with binatone on and off nothing more the charge light is red However also does this mean that if the battery is flat I can't use it ? As my old garman always worked when it was plugged in I hope this is purely because of being new but seems strange that after a reasonable time charging it's still flashing

Try holding the power button for a longer time, press (and hold) the up volume button and the power button for at least 8-10 seconds, open it, take out the battery( I recommend you send it to get it repaired from where you got it first, or else you will break your warranty). I know how you feel. I once fixed one of these before at my cousins house! If none of these work, return it and buy a new one. Hope this helps! :)
