I Have A Craftsman Gas Brushwacker Mod.636.796243

I have had this thing for years. It says that the fuel should be mixed 16/1 mix. Can I use the modern 2 cycle oils that are stated to be FOR ALL AIR COOLED 2 CYCLE ENGINES, or should I use this oil at a 16/1 mix? 16/1 is very rich and even when I first got it (many years ago) is seeped oil from the muffler. I just replaced the fuel tank and all the stuff that goes with it and it still runs great but I would like to use a leaner mix if possible. Thanks
