Craftsman Tiller Mode 917297032

Cannot fine my manual and downloaded manual doesn't answer my question.  What kind of fluid goes in the comparment right above the oil fill.  It has a white cap.

The compartment above the oil fill is for a dipstick on some models. It's also used to add oil on models that don't have acces to the lower fill hole. Since you don't have a dipstick and can add oil to the lower fill hole, that compartment is not necessary. You can add oil into that hole as well, if you'd like. 

Why is there a compartment you don't need? Because that engine is used on other models. Those models may have some part in the way of the lower fill hole, so the top compartment is necessary.
