Locked Text Messages Have Disappeared !!

Please help. I have had several text messages locked in my phone for 2 to 3 years that I saved for good memories , I just looked at my phone they are all gone !!! I did not unlock and delete them now they are gone. I appreciate any light you can shed on what happened
