Electric Pressure Cooker

Have used it 6 times, the first 4 worked well.  Now the digital timer doesn't quit blinking, and seems to be blowing alot of steam out of valve.  I have checked the seal, looks good.  The last two times it boiled dry - Does the top come apart for cleaning, if so how?  That little red (whatever its called) is the plastic ring holding it down support to be taken off? its the 6 qt cooker Am wondering if I have a defective unit, as am doing everything right as far as I know, and the first three meals prepared in it were awesome [email protected]
