Change Departure Date Due To Family Emergency

I had originally booked 2 tickets to depart in Rochester NY on Feb 25th. My daughter is 28 weeks pregnant and is at high risk of delivering my grand child early. The docker has put her on complete bed rest until the delivery of the baby. She has no one to help take care of her. I called and spoke to a customer service rep who told me u less she's hospitalized there is no way to change my ticket date. Which makes no sense because if she's in the hospital she wouldn't need assistacne or help. The rep said the only choice I have is go buy 2 entirely new tickets abe forfeit the 2 I have now. I'd like to think after flying with your airline a number of times that someone somehow can help me with this very difficult time. It only a difference of 17 days. I cannot afford to buy 2 other tickets as well as forfeit the 2 I have now..I'm begging you to help! Please let me know. Thank you, Cheryl Clline

Cheryl, most tickets are able to be changed with a change fee. It's rare when you would be required to purchase brand new tickets, UNLESS the tickets you currently have are worth less than the change fee would be. In that case, the agent would be right. I believe Delta's change fee for domestic airline tickets are now $200. International ticket change fees are even higher. So if your ticket is worth more than $200, you should be able to change it. Please be aware that the airline can also charge you a difference in air fare, on top of the $200 fee, if the fare for the new dates is higher. It can get expensive.

I would call Delta again (1-800-221-1212) and tell them you can provide medical documentation from your daughter's doctor. Ask them if they can help by waiving the change fee. If you live close to an airport where Delta operates, you could also go and ask to speak with a supervisor at the ticket counter. Sometimes talking with someone in person is more beneficial than over the phone.
