How Do I Play Dvd's On A Separate Dvd Player From My Dish Hdtv Box?

We just upgraded to an HD dish. The technician left us a new remote. When we push the clear DVD button, we get message #908. After that, we can't get any farther. Our DVD player is on and we tried pushing PLAY, but we cannot view the movie. Any ideas?
