How Does Exxon Stay In Business?

Is Exxon such a big moneymaker that, despite the fact that they have major oil spills all the time, they still stay in business? I can't believe the gov't allows a company with such ooor environmental impact to stay in business!

It is also the largest of the six oil supermajors & has grown into one of the planet’s most hated corporations, but yet it is able to help determine American foreign policy and the fate of entire nations. So yeah the government basically ignores the company's environmental image...
