You can deactivate your account from your Account Settings page. Your profile will disappears from Facebook. People will not be able to search for you or view any of your information. You can reopen the account and your profile information (friends, photos, interests, etc.) will still be there. If you don't want the information saved you can have the account deleted permanently by going here https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account
