Usually they are only down for an hour when doing maintencance to the sight, However, I have been seeing this from many users for the last hour or so. So you are not the only one having the same problem.

More than likely they are updating software and or security. Facebook has been making alot of changes since Anonymous has threatned to hack their network on November 1st. 2011. Here is a site that will tell you if Facebook is down due to maintenance or if it is a computer problem on your end. http://downrightnow.com/

hey im having the same problem! i was chatting away till my friends on facebook chat and the page froze,so i x'd out and went back on facebook,i logged in and it said under maintence it's been like that for 2 days
