How Do I Get Rid Of Garbage Somebody Put On My Computer??

I have hundreds of entries on my computer of people who want to be "my friend" . I have never heard of 95% of these people and do not know how they got on my computer and who put them there. I just started using facebook and if this is the way it operates I will have to cancel. Get this crap off of my computer.
