Heater Core

my heater core is leaking. is it ok to just bypass it, and loop the heater hose

You could do that for the summer and then fix it before winter. But the heater core also helps to cool the car. Whenever I get stuck in traffic in hot weather, I run the heat on high and that helps prevent the car from over heating. 

You could give it a shot and keep an eye on your temperature gauge on warm days. Saving a few bucks for a heater core is nice, but over heating your car will cost you a lot more than the cost of the heater core.
