Fill With Water

I have a Frigidaire model atf6000fs1 that will randomly fill up with water.  No I am not crazy.  The washing machine will be sitting empty, with the door open and it will randomly start filling with water as if it was starting a cycle.  No controls will have been touched.  It has happened a few times where water will end up spilling onto the floor through the open door.  I am able to drain the machine by closing the door and running the spin only cycle which works fine (no plugged drains).  I am assuming a circuit board is malfunctioning but would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience and if it is a circuit board, where is it located.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello cabrown1969 – Based on the symptoms you are describing, it is possible that the Main Control Board may be energizing the water valve when the unit is off. If this is the case, replacing the Control Board should solve the issue. However, another possibility is that one of the washing machine water valves are not seating properly when de-energized. Generally speaking, this can be resolved by replacing the water valve assembly. To determine whether the valve or the Main Control Board is at fault, I would recommend unplugging the washing machine when not in use. Leave the unit unplugged for a few days or until you notice water filling the machine again. If the unit continues to fill, then the valve is not seating and will need to be replaced. If the unit does not continue to fill, the Main Control Board may be sending voltage to the water valve when unit is off and it may possibly need replacing. Generally it is a good idea to have a professional take a look at it to get to the root cause. Cost of parts and technical expertise entailed in these types of replacements can be a bit tricky.
