A pressure gauge is a device that measures the pressure of a gas or liquid within a system. It works by using a pressure sensor, which converts the pressure of the system into an electrical signal that can be read by the gauge. The sensor can be mechanical, such as a bourdon tube or diaphragm, or it can be electronic, such as a piezoelectric or capacitive sensor.

The most common type of pressure gauge is the analog gauge, which uses a mechanical movement to indicate the pressure on a dial. The dial is typically calibrated in units of pressure, such as pounds per square inch (PSI) or kilopascals (kPa). The pointer on the dial points to the current pressure reading.

Another type of pressure gauge is the digital gauge, which uses an electronic sensor to measure the pressure and displays the reading on a digital display. These gauges can also be programmed to provide additional information, such as the minimum and maximum pressure readings, or to alert the user when the pressure exceeds a certain threshold.

Pressure gauges are used in a wide variety of applications, including industrial processes, HVAC systems, automotive systems, and medical equipment. They are also commonly found in laboratory settings, where they are used to measure the pressure of gases and liquids in experiments.

It is important to note that pressure gauges should be calibrated regularly to ensure accurate readings. They also need to be protected from extreme temperatures, vibration and corrosive atmospheres.
