How Do I Get The Stat Unlatched From The Back Plate?

The T8000 thermostat is poorly designed and difficult to remove. The internal battery is welded on - can't change it. Don't buy Honeywell.

Pull straight out, starting at the top. You risk extracting the your wall fasteners, but there is no other way. It comes off the flimsy and thin back plate - the more obvious front cover is not designed to come apart despite its inviting 2 piece build.
