Why Would A Married Man Act Interested, Then Disappear?

There is a man @ my church, and for years has seemed interested in me. Then one time I saw him with his wife and kids and took me by surprise, that he was married. I blew it off, and never made any contact. Now recently, I seen him at church and he was more assertive, and tried to approach me. I did not see his wife, so I thought maybe he was divorced based on his body language and behavior. When he tried to approach me, I went the other direction and he has not been back since then. Mind you, he's never missed a Sunday. Then I saw him at a church function with his wife, and would not look at me. His behavior had just changed. Can someone shed any light as to why he might act interested, bu disappear?

He is obviously trying to avoid the situation. I would say he is at least avoiding cheating on her. I don't think it's something you need to worry about anyway because obviously you don't want to be a homewrecker. There is a good chance he is cheating somewhere else, but at least it is not with you. He obviously came really close to doing something with you and then when he ended up not doing anything he decided to avoid it.
