Delivery Statute Failure

Hello, I received about 150 delivery failure reports showing that I sent this number of messages today.  I have not sent any of these messages and I am afraid that this maybe a virus or violations.  In addition I cannot send any email as there is a notification saying that I have exceeded the number of messages I can send by day.  Could you please help on this as soon as possible as my email is my working tool. Thank you for your prompt reply.

I would bet money you are simply the victim of an email spammer who harvested your email address from a web site somewhere.  You and/or your PC did not send these.

It's a simple matter to spoof the senders email address on an email.  Spammers will go out and harvest email adresses off of Internet sites and also randomly cycle through all possible combinations of them.

The result is that it "appears" that you sent a ton of junk email to people you never heard of.  You'll get email bounce-backs from email servers stating the account doesn't exist and things like that.

Spammer use this method to try and bypass spam filters.  Sometimes it works, usually not, but it doesn't stop them.

There is nothing you can do to stop this.  You cannot control who might be using your email address as a return address.

The best thing you can do is obfuscate your address on web sites.  Instead of listing "[email protected]" in your signature instead list "bob AT bob DOT com" and let people fix it before they email you.  The email spammer-bots can't harvest your address that way.

There is always that chance that yes you do have a virus, so make sure you run anti-virus software and make sure it's up to date.
