Fridge Making A Very Loud Noise- 5 Yrs Old?

Purchased this fridge for my aging Mother 5 years ago and now it is making a very loud sound.  I have not called a repair man because I know the house call and parts could probably be 2/3rds of the cost to buy a new one.  It just seems such a waste to me.  Is there a history with this particular refrigerator with making loud noises?
